		         <title>The Perfect Easter Sunday Dessert</title>
		         <description>
	With Easter right around the corner you may still be planning the details of an Easter dinner for family and friends. If so, we have a dessert that will be on our menu for sure. We&amp;rsquo;re positive this will result in many &amp;ldquo;ooh&amp;rsquo;s&amp;rdquo; and &amp;ldquo;aaah&amp;rsquo;s&amp;rdquo; following dinner! It&amp;rsquo;s well suited to the early Spring arrival of Easter this year on Sunday, April 5.

	Pina Colada Icebox Pie

	2 cups pecan shortbread cookie crumbs (about 16 cookies)
	1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
	1/4 cup butter, melted
	1/3 cup sugar
	2 tablespoons cornstarch
	1&amp;nbsp;(8-oz.) can crushed pineapple in juice
	1&amp;nbsp;(8-oz.) package cream cheese, softened
	1 1/2 cups cream of coconut, divided
	2 large eggs
	1 cup whipping cream
	Garnishes: lightly toasted shaved coconut, pineapple wedges, fresh pineapple mint sprigs

	1. Preheat oven to 350&amp;deg;. Stir together first 3 ingredients; firmly press on bottom and up sides of a lightly greased 9-inch pie plate. Press the crumb mixture all the way up the sides of the pie plate before baking; otherwise, you&amp;#39;ll end up with a thick, uneven crust that&amp;#39;s too shallow to hold the filling. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Transfer to a wire rack; cool completely (about 30 minutes).

	2. Stir together sugar and cornstarch in a small heavy saucepan; stir in pineapple. While stirring constantly, bring to a boil over medium-high heat; cook (keep stirring!) 1 minute or until thickened. Remove from heat; cool completely (about 20 minutes).

	3. Beat cream cheese at medium speed with a heavy-duty electric stand mixer, using whisk attachment, until smooth. Gradually add 1 cup cream of coconut, beating at low speed just until blended. (Chill remaining 1/2 cup cream of coconut until ready to use.) Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating just until blended after each addition.

	4. Spread cooled pineapple mixture over bottom of piecrust; spoon cream cheese mixture over pineapple mixture.

	5. Bake at 350&amp;deg; for 38 to 42 minutes or until set. Cool completely on a wire rack (about 1 hour). Cover and chill 4 hours.

	6. Beat whipping cream at high speed until foamy. Gradually add remaining 1/2 cup cream of coconut, beating until soft peaks form; spread over pie.

		         <title>Super Sweet Valentine&apos;s Day Treat</title>
		         <description>
	There&amp;rsquo;s no better time to indulge your self with the sweet taste of chocolate than on Valentine&amp;rsquo;s Day. Whether you&amp;rsquo;re celebrating the holiday with a loved one or spending it solo, take the time to treat yourself with the following good-for-the-soul treat. This is one of my most favorite love-me foods ever!

	&amp;nbsp;

	&amp;nbsp;

	Super Chocolatey Brownie Tart

	6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) unsalted butter
	3 1/4 cups (20 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
	3 extra-large eggs
	1 cup sugar
	1 tablespoon instant coffee granules
	1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
	1/2 cup all-purpose flour
	1/4 teaspoon baking powder
	1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
	1 cup (4 ounces) chopped walnuts
	2 to 3 tablespoons heavy cream

	Grease and flour a 9-inch tart pan with removable sides. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

	Melt the butter in a bowl set over simmering water. Add 2 cups of the chocolate chips, remove from the heat, and stir until the chocolate melts. Set aside to cool completely.

	In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the eggs, sugar, coffee, and vanilla on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Stir in the cooled chocolate. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, 1 cup of the chocolate chips, and the walnuts. Fold the flour mixture into the batter until just combined. Pour into the pan and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until the center is puffed (the top may crack). The inside will still be very soft. Cool to room temperature before removing the sides of the tart pan.

	Melt the remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips with the heavy cream and drizzle on the tart.

	With most rentals being Saturday to Saturday in this area, tomorrow is the main check in day for Fourth of July week. History shows Fourth of July as one of the busiest weeks of the year in all of the Brunswick Beaches! Here are a couple tips we&amp;rsquo;ve learned about checking in to a beach house;

		You will get caught in traffic- All of the Islands are small, and a lot of people are coming onto the island at the same time. As you near your destination, expect for traffic to be backed up for a few miles. It can be frustrating at the end of a long trip, but stay calm and remember, you&amp;rsquo;re almost there!

		Do NOT use this time to go to the grocery store- Not if you&amp;rsquo;re buying anything perishable at least. When you arrive at the rental company, your house might not be ready. Check in time is a goal they strive for, but not a guarantee. You don&amp;rsquo;t want to have a container of melting ice cream or souring milk in your car as you wait for you rental to be ready.

		Don&amp;rsquo;t Worry, Be Happy!- We know it can be frustrating when you&amp;rsquo;ve driven a long way, then get stuck in traffic, then arrive to the rental company to hear your homes not quite ready. Take this time to park at one of the public lots, hit the beach and get some sun time in. Or go look around one of the shops on the island. Or grab a late lunch/early dinner. You&amp;rsquo;re on vacation and there&amp;rsquo;s plenty to do while waiting for your house to be ready. If you&amp;rsquo;re lucky enough to be at the beach, you&amp;rsquo;re lucky enough!

	Once you&amp;rsquo;re here and settled, you&amp;rsquo;re in for some good times!! With Fireworks in OIB on Sunday night (viewable from neighboring islands as well) and parades and festivals on the fourth, you&amp;rsquo;re bound to have a memorable vacation! Visit our events page for a list of events going on while you&amp;rsquo;re in town. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your vacation! What better way to celebrate America than at the Brunswick Beaches?

		         <title>What Makes a Good Photographer?</title>
		         <description>
	Guest Blogger Jesse Stephenson of Jesse Stephenson Photography shares what makes a good photographer. Read more below!

	What makes a good photograph?&amp;nbsp; If you aren&amp;rsquo;t trained as a photographer, you may not be able to explain why a photograph is good, but you know one when you see one.&amp;nbsp; After all, it speaks to you.&amp;nbsp; It evokes emotion, and allows you to feel what the photograph is conveying.&amp;nbsp;

	Photography has two sides to it:&amp;nbsp; Art and Craft

	The art side is just that.&amp;nbsp; It is the ability to make a photograph interesting.&amp;nbsp; To capture well the emotion the person is feeling.&amp;nbsp; It is understanding rules of composition, and how to use light to enhance, and illuminate.&amp;nbsp; It is sometimes posing the subject to help bring out their best or slim down or even look more natural.&amp;nbsp; Art is relational; connecting with, and putting the subject at ease is critical for a great photograph.

	Craft is, simply speaking, knowing which button to push.&amp;nbsp; This takes years to master, and thousands of photos.&amp;nbsp; A good photographer will always strive to grow in this area.&amp;nbsp; It is having a grasp of things like proper exposure, which deals with the lighting being just right.&amp;nbsp; Depth of field is also critical for a photographer to master.&amp;nbsp; This deals with whether you just want the subject in focus, or the subject and some portion of the background in focus.&amp;nbsp; Understanding the interaction between the camera&amp;rsquo;s shutter speed, f-stop and ISO are a must in order to take a technically correct photo.

	If you choose to use a friend or family member to capture your wedding or portrait session, make sure they are skilled in both the art and craft of photography. It is also important to make sure they have enough experience to take good photos while under some stress.&amp;nbsp; Some hobby photographers are great landscape or nature photographers, but it is a quite different experience when you have to be the &amp;ldquo;director&amp;rdquo; as well.

		         <title>Drift Coffee Ocean Isle Beach</title>
		         <description>
	Visit Brunswick Beaches would like to give a big welcome to the newest coffee shop in town, Drift Coffee in OIB! The below article was posted in the Island Living Easter tab of the Brunswick Beacon:

	Powell brothers hang up boards, open coffee shop
	By Sam Hickman
	Staff Writer

	OCEAN ISLE BEACH &amp;mdash; They grew up surfing the waves of Ocean Isle Beach before attending college at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Now, after spending the last few years traveling around the world and surfing, brothers Michael and Ben Powell have returned to the coast of Brunswick County and will serve fellow beachgoers and others at their recently-opened coffee shop.
	&amp;ldquo;It was almost a year ago when we really starting thinking about the idea,&amp;rdquo; Ben said. &amp;ldquo;We didn&amp;rsquo;t want to really commit until we found a nice spot.&amp;rdquo;
	Drift which serves premium coffee, fresh fruit smoothies and farm fresh baked goods, opened its doors March 19 at 20 E. Second St. on Ocean Isle Beach, across from the Museum of Coastal Carolina.
	&amp;ldquo;We opened at 2:13 p.m., and had our first customers the same day,&amp;rdquo; Ben said.
	The Powell brothers caught their break at the end of 2013 when a Realtors&amp;rsquo; office relocated, opening up a second-floor space in one of Ocean Isle&amp;rsquo;s hottest spots beside Pelican&amp;rsquo;s Perch and several beach stores.
	Their time as surfers has been put on hold for the time being.
	&amp;ldquo;Right now, it&amp;rsquo;s cold out there,&amp;rdquo; Ben said. &amp;ldquo;When the weather gets nicer, I&amp;rsquo;ll get back out there.&amp;rdquo;
	Michael, 25, and Ben, 24, will be back out on their boards this summer when vacationers sign up for surf lessons through Carolina School of Surf, which the brothers started last year.
	Michael isn&amp;rsquo;t nearly as eager as his younger brother to paddle out again.
	Michael, who won the individual national surfing championship while at UNCW, has traveled around the world and surfed the biggest and best waves in the world.
	After several years of living the pro surfer lifestyle, Michael said it was time for a change.
	He decided the surfboard would be fine in the garage for a while, a difficult decision for someone whose livelihood was once dependent on his ability to shred the world&amp;rsquo;s nastiest waves.
	That&amp;rsquo;s when the brothers took off across the globe. Their world travels include trips to Indonesia, Australia, Singapore, Beijing, Montreal, Taiwan, Istanbul, and South Korea, among other locations(view their travels at&amp;nbsp;www.ClassOnTap.com).
	&amp;ldquo;The whole time we were on these trips we were on vacation, but we were getting ideas about our business,&amp;rdquo; Michael said.
	The Powells said there&amp;rsquo;s been plenty of support from their closest friends in OIB.
	&amp;ldquo;It&amp;rsquo;s been really helpful having family and friends around to give us feedback,&amp;rdquo; Ben said. &amp;ldquo;The majority of people that have come by so far are family and friends. When we put up that we were opening on social media, some people dropped by.&amp;rdquo;
	The Powells use a Facebook page and Instagram account to promote their business.
	&amp;ldquo;We&amp;rsquo;ve found that social media is really useful,&amp;rdquo; Michael said. &amp;ldquo;We opened and didn&amp;rsquo;t have any customers. Then we posted something on Instagram and people were in here within a couple of hours.&amp;rdquo;
	Ben said he&amp;rsquo;s amazed at how much the building has transformed since they began working.
	&amp;ldquo;It was a Realtors&amp;rsquo; office, so there were walls up everywhere,&amp;rdquo; he said. &amp;ldquo;We had to take those down. We want it to be open. We want people to feel comfortable coming here to socialize.&amp;rdquo;
	The surfers-turned-businessmen have also developed a knack for carpentry, as Ben is responsible for building the tables in the coffee shop himself.
	One of the &amp;ldquo;go-to&amp;rdquo; items at Drift is the iced coffee, which the brothers believe is the best around. They attribute its deliciousness to a &amp;ldquo;secret blending method.&amp;rdquo;
	&amp;ldquo;We want to be known for our coffee,&amp;rdquo; Michael said. &amp;ldquo;We want it to be the best around.&amp;rdquo;
	The fresh-baked goods could become a staple of the shop, Ben said, noting the scones were a big hit in the first week of business.
	During their travels, the Powells also spent time in the states crafting the concept of their shop. A trip to Manhattan, which included a day when they walked 17 miles, proved to be beneficial as they learned more about the coffee industry.
	&amp;ldquo;We tried to visit every coffee shop in the city,&amp;rdquo; Michael said. &amp;ldquo;It was a great experience to see how it&amp;rsquo;s done, how it&amp;rsquo;s done well.&amp;rdquo;

	The Powell brothers know their business can be successful if they stay true to themselves and their business model, which is to provide a quality product and maintain simplicity.
	&amp;ldquo;We have to be focused on what we do,&amp;rdquo; Ben said. &amp;ldquo;It&amp;rsquo;s a minimalist approach as far as what we serve, but we want it to be high quality.&amp;rdquo;
	&amp;ldquo;We&amp;rsquo;re constantly thinking about concepts, ways we can improve,&amp;rdquo; Michael added.
	The brothers say they never envisioned themselves running a coffee shop, but things &amp;ldquo;just fell into place.&amp;rdquo;
	Michael, who calls himself &amp;ldquo;super fired up about coffee,&amp;rdquo; is confident in Drift&amp;rsquo;s product.
	&amp;ldquo;You&amp;rsquo;ll get a good quality product and you&amp;rsquo;ll get great service.&amp;rdquo;
	Ben and Michael Powell have spent most of their lives as accomplished surfers, yet when the doors opened at Drift, the brothers Powell saw their latest dream become a reality.
	Now they&amp;rsquo;re just riding the wave.

		         <title>Grilled Salmon over Cilantro Lime Slaw</title>
		         <description>
	Here in the Brunswick Beaches, we love our seafood! Looking for a healthy seafood recipe with a bit of bite to it? Then look no further! Although salmon might not be local to our waters, we still love it! You can also use mahi, tuna, or any other fish for this recipe. Its good with shrimp too! Just make sure you adjust the cooking time appropriately.

	Grilled Salmon over Cilantro Lime Slaw

	Ingredients

		Salmon Fillets

		Shredded Carrots

		Shredded Cabbage

		Fresh Cilantro

		Whole Limes and/or lime juice

		Olive Oil

		Powdered Cayenne Pepper

		1 tsp Sugar

	Cilantro Lime Slaw- Prepare first and store in refrigerator

		Wash and chop cilantro, so you have about 3 handfuls

		In a large bowl, mix together chopped cilantro, shredded carrot, and shredded cabbage

		In a separate bowl, mix together about &amp;frac14; cup of lime juice, 1-2 tbs of olive oil, a pinch of sugar, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper (the more you use the spicier it is so use your judgment here!)

		Pour the lime juice mixture over the slaw

		Add more lime juice or oil if the consistancy is not as you desire

		Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour

	Salmon

		Pre heat grill to medium heat

		Mix together enough olive oil, lime juice, salt and pepper to cover the amount of salmon you have. It should be 2 parts oil to 1 part lime juice.

		Wash and dry salmon filets and pick out any bones

		Brush salmon filets with oil/lime mixture

		Place Salmon on the grill and over

		As a rule of thumb, it takes about 10 mins per inch of thickness of salmon filets. You can tell that the salmon is ready when the fat is released (you will see a white, mayonnaise looking substance).

	Serve the salmon over the slaw. Garnish with lime wedges and cilantro. Enjoy!

		         <title>Tipsy Carolina Tea</title>
		         <description>
	Most people know of the classic Long Island Ice Tea. But here on the Carolina Coast we like to put a little southern twist on this classic cocktail. This adult drink goes down easy and packs a punch, so tread carefully! An ice cold glass of Tipsy Carolina Tea is a great way to end a day on the beach. Make a pitcher full and sit on the porch with your friends and family as you watch the sun set.

	Tipsy Carolina Tea

		Equal parts Vodka, Rum, Southern Comfort Bourbon, and Peach Schnapps

		Fill with equal parts coke and lemonade

		Serve over ice with lemon slices and mint leaves

	We at the Brunswick Beaches really know how to mix up a good cocktail! Stay tuned for more drink recipes soon!

		         <title>How to Make Low Country Boil</title>
		         <description>
	Low Country Boil&amp;nbsp; is a classic staple of the Brunswick Beaches and other coastal areas. This is also refered to as a steam pot locally.&amp;nbsp; It&amp;rsquo;s easy to make at the house and you only use one pot so its great for easy clean up! You can get creative with the seafood you use, but I recommend only using something in a shell. Scallops or fish can get mushy. Traditional Low Country boil is simply potatoes, sausage, corn, shrimp and mussels, but we like to mix it up a little in the Brunswick Beaches!

	Ingredients

		6 Fresh ears of corn, cut in half (so you have 12 halves total)

		Red baby potatoes

		Italian Sausage (chopped into 1 inch thick circles)

		Fresh Shrimp ( do not peel)

		Fresh Clams or Mussels (or both!)

		Snow Crab Legs or Whole Blue Crabs

		&amp;frac14;&amp;nbsp; cup vinegar

		Old Bay

	Directions

		Fill a large boiling pot about half way with water. Add vinegar and Old Bay to taste. You will layer in each item depending on how long it takes to cook each. Set heat to about medium.

		First layer I throw in is the potatos as they take the longest to cook

		After about 10 minuets, I throw in the corn and sausage

		After about 5-10 more minuets, I throw in the crab legs and crabs

		After about 5 more minuets I throw I the clams and/or mussles

		A couple minuets after the clams and mussles, I throw in the shrimp

		5 minutes after the shrimp has been added (or the shrimp are a pretty pink and floating&amp;mdash;watch carefully shrimp overcook easily) this is done

		Drain, put it back in the pot, and serve with lots of paper towels and extra vinegar and old bay!

	Cooking Tips

		Potatoes take 25 minuets to boil

		Corn takes around 15 minuets

		Sausage takes 10-15 minuets

		Crab legs and blue crabs both take about 10 minuets

		Mussles and Clams both take about 5-10 minuets

		Shrimp takes about 5 minuets

		Use desecration when layering and keep in mind these times aren&amp;rsquo;t exact so just keep your eye on everything.

		If you need to add more water midway through, go ahead. You need to make sure its all items in the pot are covered with water.

	This is one of my familes favorite summer time meals. Don&amp;#39;t forget to serve with Sweet Tea, Lemonade, or an ice cold beer. Enjoy!

		         <title>St. Pattys Day at the Brunswick Beaches</title>
		         <description>
	This has been one of the coldest St. Patrick&amp;rsquo;s Day I can remember! Usually we&amp;rsquo;re standing in the sunshine drinking cold beer. But this year, burrrr everyone was huddled around the fire. Even with the cold, it was still a blast! The Brunswick Beaches have their own special charm and events for St. Patrick&amp;rsquo;s Day, and it is a great place to be for the holiday. &amp;nbsp;Ocean Isle Beach is home to the annual Lucky Leprechaun 5 k. &amp;nbsp;Runners met bright and early Saturday morning at The Winds Beach Resort for this event. Wearing green and showing their St. Pattys day spirit, they ran this beautiful course along side of the ocean!

	Another fun thing to do is visit Fibber McGees in Sunset Beach. Offering a variety of beer and Irish food, this bar is the place to be! They expand out into the street so there is plenty of room for all. If you&amp;rsquo;re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of one of their long time bar tenders dressed up in a leprechaun suit! Although it was cold this year, it was still a blast!

	If you have any pictures of St. Pattys day in the Brunswick Beaches that you&amp;rsquo;d like to share, we&amp;rsquo;d love to see them! Shoot them to nicole@visitbrunswickbeaches.com for your chance to be featured on our website or social media!

		         <title>Winter Weather Again?</title>
		         <description>
	It looks like we might be in for some more ice or sleet here in the Brunswick Beaches this week. As of right now, they&amp;rsquo;re saying the snow is going to stay inland, but we still have a chance of ice or freezing rain.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; This is very unusual weather for this area! I can&amp;rsquo;t brag to my friends up north about my weather here this week! It&amp;rsquo;s okay though, because I know once it passes it&amp;rsquo;ll be in the 50&amp;rsquo;s/60&amp;rsquo;s again next week. I don&amp;rsquo;t have the wardrobe for this weather! It doesn&amp;#39;t appear that it is going to be as bad as it was last time, so thats good. Stay tuned for more weather updates. <title>Winter Storm Leon Hits the Coastal Carolinas</title>
		         <description>
	It&amp;rsquo;s been a cold few days here at the Brunswick Beaches. Many locals have been iced in since Tuesday. It&amp;rsquo;s finally supposed to get up to the mid 50&amp;rsquo;s today, and melt all the ice. I personally have been having some intense cabin fever! I&amp;rsquo;m not used to being stuck in for so long. Thank goodness the weather is looking up for this weekend. It may be rainy, but I&amp;rsquo;m not complaining about the temperatures in the mid 60&amp;rsquo;s. The ice affected us, but not as badly as it could have. The roads were bad and most local shops closed down. Schools have been closed everyday this week other than Monday. But we&amp;rsquo;re thankful that we haven&amp;rsquo;t lost power or had any other major issues. Power lines around here are not equipped for the heavy ice, so there was a good chance of power loss. We&amp;rsquo;ve had our winter storm mother nature, now bring on the sunshine and beach weather!

		         <title>Snow at the Brunswick Beaches?</title>
		         <description>
	Snow at the Brunswick Beaches?

	It&amp;rsquo;s been a long time since the Brunswick Beaches have experienced a large accumulation of snow. Every couple years we may get flurries, but nothing that really adds up to over an inch. This picture of a palm tree in Sea Trail Plantation is from last year. That was the heaviest it got, and the heaviest I&amp;rsquo;ve seen it in a long time (and it was barley sticking to the ground). Today they&amp;rsquo;re calling for 3-5 inches! People from up north may think that amount is laughable and shouldn&amp;rsquo;t cause such frenzy. But we don&amp;rsquo;t have snow plows or salt trucks, and the local people aren&amp;rsquo;t accustom to driving in such weather. All that combined adds up to a potentially dangerous situation. Schools are closed, and now we are sitting and waiting for the snow to come down. Stay tuned for pictures of Ocean Isle Beach, Sunset Beach and your other favorite Brunswick Beaches covered in snow!

		         <title>Merry Christmas to All!</title>
		         <description>
	The Holidays are a special time in Beaches of Brunswick County. Weather wise, you never know what you&amp;rsquo;re going to get. This time last week it was a warm and sunny 75. I for one skipped out of work early one day (shhhh, don&amp;rsquo;t tell my boss!), to enjoy the beach weather. Feeling the sun on my skin might not have put me in the holiday mood, but it sure felt nice! But the cold weather came just in time for Christmas Eve. I was able to enjoy a hot tottie by the firepit with my family on Christmas Eve, while seeing Christmas lights reflect over the water. It really was magical.&amp;nbsp; I truly am blessed to be from such a beautiful place. While others have to battle the snow, I complain when it drops to 45. Yesterday I told my dad it was &amp;ldquo;freezing&amp;rdquo; out. He so kindly pointed to the thermometer on their porch which ready 47 degrees and said, &amp;ldquo;not quite&amp;rdquo;. &amp;nbsp;Sometimes I think it would be nice to live somewhere that it snows, but truly, I couldn&amp;rsquo;t imagine Christmas anywhere other than the Brunswick Beaches!

	We here at Visit Brunswick Beaches hope you and your family had a safe and blessed Christmas and enjoy the rest of your holiday season. Have a funny Christmas story? &amp;nbsp;Email me at nicole@visitbrunswickbeaches.com for a chance to be featured on Facebook or Twitter!

		         <title>Recommending Where to Stay in Southport NC</title>
		         <description>
	One of my most favorite places to stay when I travel is locally owned Bed &amp;amp; Breakfast accommodations. So when we have company visiting from a long distance away, and we don&amp;rsquo;t have room for them at our house, we recommend they stay at the nearby Southport Inn. It&amp;rsquo;s a beautiful home filled with old warm charm combined with all the modern comforts you would want to have surrounding you.

	If you&amp;rsquo;re looking for Southport NC vacation rentals let me recommend this Bed &amp;amp; Breakfast. It&amp;rsquo;s a wonderful little hideaway located within walking distance of many fine restaurants offering exceptional food, lots of eclectic shopping venues and spectacular views of the Cape Fear River.

	This Inn offers your choice of four different rooms, one with its own private entrance.

	Doctor Benjamin&amp;rsquo;s Room is a spacious and elegant room featuring hand carved furniture and cabinetry, queen size four poster bed, sitting chair, plush oriental rugs and solid French Doors.

	Isabella&amp;rsquo;s Room is the second largest room and features cathedral ceilings and exposed beams and an exquisitely soft and cozy queen size bed. Cozy corners make this room the perfect hideaway. Includes a nice light filled private bath.

	Ella Rae&amp;rsquo;s Room features a queen size bed and has it&amp;rsquo;s own cozy little fireplace and a full private bath.

	The Blue Suite is upstairs and features a queen size bed, private bathroom, coffee machine, microwave, dining table with four chairs, folding sofa that folds into a queen size bed and a flat screen TV. The &amp;quot;Blue Suite&amp;quot; has its own private entrance.

	Whether you&amp;rsquo;re planning a trip here during the holidays or at any other time of the year and would like to stay at the Inn, let them know you learned about them right here on the Visit Brunswick Beaches website. You can reach them by calling 910-880-0292. I&amp;#39;m sure they&amp;#39;d love to hear from you!

		         <title>Wishing You All a Very Merry Christmas! </title>
		         <description>
	We have friends that come to the Oak Island and Southport area of North Carolina in the fall every year to do some offshore fishing. I don&amp;rsquo;t know what they&amp;rsquo;re using for bait but they never fail to return with at least one trophy fish. They say they keep trying for a bigger and bigger fish than the last time and somehow they manage to catch it! While I&amp;rsquo;ve never been invited to go out fishing with them, I do so very much enjoy hearing their stories.

	This year when they came they found&amp;nbsp;Caswell Beach accommodations where they stayed because they wanted to head out from a different spot along the coast than they usually do. Apparently that&amp;rsquo;s a critical decision that fishermen have to make. Well, they loved the place they stayed at. It was huge and furnished quite well, I must say. They enjoyed the swimming pool and hot tub that came along with it but didn&amp;rsquo;t invite me to come and use that either, I&amp;rsquo;m sorry to say.

	Coming to this area along the coast is a great place to getaway to and not just to fish, although the fishing here is superior to other places I&amp;rsquo;m told. There&amp;rsquo;s lots of shopping in the Oak Island and Southport area. There are shops and kiosks there that you just won&amp;rsquo;t find anywhere else. I love those types of specialty stores. You can get one-of-a-kind items that you won&amp;rsquo;t have to worry about every other person wearing. I like making my very own fashion statement.

	I&amp;rsquo;d like to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas from all of my family to yours!

		         <title>Where We&apos;re Dining in Holden Beach</title>
		         <description>
	When it comes to dining out and choosing where to go it&amp;rsquo;s always a decision I have to wrestle with. The reason is because there are so many great restaurants in this area serving completely scrumptious food! So, when I decide to go out I come check out the list on this page for places to go and then choose one. I haven&amp;rsquo;t gone wrong yet!

	We&amp;rsquo;re going out this evening to one of the area&amp;rsquo;s Holden Beach restaurants and we&amp;rsquo;re looking forward to it. All of the stores and restaurants are decorated for the holidays and I love this time of the year. There&amp;#39;s just something about Christmas lights that lifts my spirits.

	What we&amp;rsquo;ve decided on for this evening is Captain Pete&amp;rsquo;s Seafood Restaurant at 103 South Shore Drive on Holden Beach. We&amp;rsquo;ve been there before and always had a splendid experience. Their specialty is serving fine cuisine with a southern emphasis. It&amp;rsquo;s a nice mix. Dishes are prepared with high quality ingredients and they use locally grown produce and the freshest seafood. For me, that&amp;rsquo;s pretty important. I don&amp;rsquo;t want my seafood coming from Maine and being pulled out of the freezer. Not when we have some of the best seafood in the world right here in the waters of coastal North Carolina!

	If you get the chance while you&amp;rsquo;re visiting the Brunswick Beaches, definitely pay a visit to Captain Pete&amp;rsquo;s. Try the &amp;ldquo;Captain Pete&amp;rsquo;s Seafood Sampler&amp;rdquo; with crab cakes, stuffed flounder, fried oysters and grilled shrimp. It&amp;rsquo;s out of this world!&amp;nbsp;

	Happy holidays to everyone!

	&amp;nbsp;

		         <title>Ocean Isle Beach Commercial</title>
		         <description>

	Wilmington and Southport, North Carolina have been long known as locations for filming many movies and TV Shows. Most recently the television show Under the Dome, and the movie based on the Nicholas Sparks book Safe Haven have been the talk of the town. Southport has a gorgeous location for filming and has been used for many years.&amp;nbsp; But Southport isn&amp;rsquo;t the Brunswick Beach that will be known for its filming location. &amp;nbsp;

	A couple weeks ago, Ocean Isle Beach was host to filming for a 2014 Super Bowl Commercial! The Winds Resort in Ocean Isle Beach was chosen for its atmosphere. With it&amp;rsquo;s ocean front bar and pool, and tropical landscaping, it is the ideal location for filming. The commercial was shot for Charlotte Metro Credit Union. Simple Syrup, a local creative ad agency based out of Durham, NC chose The Winds as the perfect location to best represent a carribean resort. Filming began on August 22nd and wrapped the next day.&amp;nbsp;

	With an increasing amount of film, television and now commercial interest along the Brunswick County coastline, audiences are now more aware of the appeal this area tends to have. The world-wide exposure that Ocean Isle Beach will soon receive can potentially generate more revenue via media outlets.&amp;nbsp;

	Click here to read more information, and look for the Charlotte Metro Credit Union Commercial this February!

		         <title>Downtown Southport</title>
		         <description>

	Downtown Southport, North Carolina is a town like no other. The charm of the coastal town has been the setting for many movies over the past 20 years or so. There is a reason why this town sparks the attention of Hollywood producers.&amp;nbsp; Keep driving down Route 211 until you hit the water, and you will see what I am talking about. The streets are lined with charming shops and restaurants, and the waterfront has benches and biking and walking paths. Browse around the neighborhoods to see large Charleston style homes. Great views, great shopping, and great food. What more could you ask for? Southport is a short drive from most Brunswick Beaches locations and is a wonderful place to spend an evening!

		         <title>Bald Head Island Golf Course</title>
		         <description>

	A course only reachable by ferry, experience a round like none before at the distinguished Bald Head Island Country Club. A day not to be forgotten, the Bald Head Island Golf Course transcends nature and sport into one fulfilling event. The southernmost of North Carolina&amp;rsquo;s barrier islands, Bald Head Island is only accessible from Southport, NC via ferry. The country club itself is a marvelous array of southern beauty and exquisite charm. Native grasses encompass lagoons, dunes and ocean backdrops as you meander around one of the nation&amp;rsquo;s most tranquil golf courses.

	Accolades abound, the course has a coveted 4.5 stars from Golf Digest&amp;rsquo;s Places to Play and recently was voted second best renovation in the country behind Pinehurst No 2. Designed by George Cobb and renovated by Tim Cate, Bald Head Island Golf Course opened for play in 1974 and has remained the standard for breathtaking beauty and challenging golf.

	With a slope of 143 and course rating of 73.7, Bald Head Island Golf Course will not be mistaken for an easy course. Challenging and exhilarating do not let the conditions deter you, for playing the course, is only half of the experience. Foxes, egrets, ospreys and even alligators roam the island and at times, Bald Head Island can seem like a conservancy. If it&amp;rsquo;s a day of adventure, golf and tranquility you seek, then be sure to experience the Bald Head Island Golf Course. Just another reason to Visit Brunswick Beaches.

		         <title>Calabash Fishing Charter</title>
		         <description>
	&amp;nbsp;

	It&amp;rsquo;s not hard to find a lot of fun and interesting things to do around the Brunswick Beaches, but it&amp;rsquo;s hard to find a better trip than the hurricane fleet fishing in Calabash, NC.&amp;nbsp; They are very well known in the area for catching a lot of fish and having a good time out on the boat.

	Let me tell you a few reasons why they are so great and why anyone would enjoy a trip out on the Hurricane Fleet Fishing:

		Their Crew:&amp;nbsp; They were really nice, knowledgeable and helped us with rigging and giving us tips.

		Family Friendly:&amp;nbsp; I took my 6 year old daughter, my girly-girl wife and my mother out on a trip.&amp;nbsp; We all had a blast and all of us caught a lot of fish.

		Price:&amp;nbsp; You get what you pay for in just about everything in life.&amp;nbsp; While they are much easier on the wallet than private charters and other fishing boats in the area, they also treat you right and help you have a good time.

		         <title>Inlet View Restaraunt</title>
		         <description>
	When dining in the Brunswick Beaches, don&amp;rsquo;t forget about Inlet View. Inlet View is off of the beaten path, in Shallotte Point (in between the town of Shallotte, and Ocean Isle Beach). This restaurant has both inside and outside seating with amazing views. With a 3rd story tiki deck overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway, you can see for miles. I often like to travel to Inlet View by boat, dock, and sit outside for a soft shell crab sandwich and a ice cold margarita. I love restaurants that you can travel to by land or sea&amp;hellip;being right there on the water gives you the true coastal experience. The porches and interior are decorated in bright coastal colors, and the views really cannot be beat. Not to mention the friendly staff, and awesome food.

	The bar at Inlet View is open late night, and they often have great live music. Stop on in for a great time and enjoy the Brunswick Beaches as the locals do! For more information on Inlet Views Menu, Location and Events schedule, visit their website at http://www.inletview.com

		         <title>Ocean Isle Fishing Center</title>
		         <description>

	The Ocean Isle Fishing Center (OIFC) is a staple of the Brunswick Beaches sportfishing community. Whether you&amp;#39;re looking for some gear to take home to loved ones from Ocean Isle or you&amp;#39;re an experienced fishermen looking for top of the line tackle, OIFC is the place for you.

	I recently had the experience of fishing in one of their most popular tournaments, the Jolly Mon King Classic with my family. Although we were far from taking home the grand prize, the fishing was great and the events at the fishing center were fun for the whole family. Since a young age, I&amp;#39;ve been coming to Ocean Isle Beach and we always worked the Jolly Mon classic, even before the fishing center was open! I love seeing the young children out their with friends, cousins, brother and sisters getting in on the fishing action.

	If you&amp;#39;re an Ocean Isle Beach local, you&amp;#39;ve definelty spent some time at OIFC shopping, eating, filling the boat up with gas or telling your latest fishing tales. If you&amp;#39;re visiting the island this summer, you won&amp;#39;t be able to miss it, it&amp;#39;s the first eye-catching structure as you make it over the bridge! There&amp;#39;s always lots of buzz and activities surrounding the fishing center so it&amp;#39;s worth stopping by while on the island.

		         <title>Fishy Fishy Cafe</title>
		         <description>
	Looking for a great place to chill out, sit back, have some great drinks and great food, with a great view? Then Fishy Fishy in Southport is the place for you. Fishy Fishy is so cool, it has been used as the filmy location for many TV shows and movies, including the first season of ABC&amp;rsquo;s Revenge. It was also featured in the sky line view of &amp;ldquo;Safe Haven&amp;rdquo; which is actually about the Brunswick Beaches own Southport! With colorful buildings and large decks over looking the water, you will have an experience like no other. They often have live music as well. The ambiance isn&amp;rsquo;t the only good thing about Fishy Fishy Caf&amp;eacute;. Trust me!

	It&amp;rsquo;s one of my personal favorite spots to hang out. My Mother and I often head down there for a girls night, and sit on the water, sipping cocktails, and sampling items off of their menu. We can never settle for just one item, so often each pick out a sandwich and split both. They also have GREAT She Crab Soup. If we&amp;rsquo;re not in the mood for Sandwiches or Entrees, we love sitting out on the water, having a couple cocktails, and some appetizers. It&amp;rsquo;s hard to pick just a few from their gourmet appetizers list. They have items on their menu that aren&amp;rsquo;t run of the mill seafood dishes&amp;hellip; you won&amp;rsquo;t find some of these items anywhere else! They have items like Fried Plantains, Jalape&amp;ntilde;o Hush Puppies, Coconut Almond Shrimp, Tuna Bruchetta, Grouper Bites with a homemade sauce that is to die for, and more!

	Make a point to stop by Fishy Fishy while your in town, for their friendly staff, great view, and delicious food! You can check out their menu and entertainment schedule ahead of time by visiting their website at http://www.fishyfishycafe.com/

		         <title>OIB Surf and Java</title>
		         <description>
	OIB Surf and Java is a wonderful surf shop in Ocean Isle Beach, with a coffee shop in the back. In the front part of the store you will find clothing, jewelry, sunglasses, bathing, and more. The back of the shop is a coffee shop where you can order specialty coffee drinks, teas, and small bakery snacks. The shop has a very inviting and chill feel, making you want to sit in the back and enjoy a cup of joe with your friends, while watching the surf videos on the TVs.

	OIB Surf and Java is not your run of the mill surf shop. They are boutique style surf shop, with hand picked items. Their goal is to have a more old fashioned surf shop, where you will find unique products and be able to talk about the surf with the employees and patrons alike. This shop is the type of place you will find both locals and tourist, sitting around enjoying their drinks, talking about the waves, and browsing the items.

	OIB Surf and Java also sells surf boards, surf accessories, and local art. This is also the place to take your board to repair any dings. One of the owners of the shop, Jesse McCrery, even shapes and sells his own boards in the shop. While you are in town make sure you stop in OIB Surf and Java and see what a real surf shop is all about! OIB Surf and Java is located in the Lowes shopping center on the mainland side of the Ocean Isle Beach Bridge. You can also check them out on Facebook or on their Website.

		         <title>Kindred Spirit</title>
		         <description>
	Bird Island is truly a unique island all on it&amp;rsquo;s own.&amp;nbsp; The southeastern most point of North Carolina is completely uninhibited and preserved without any buildings, houses or even roads.&amp;nbsp; It&amp;rsquo;s a hot spot for boaters to beach at because it&amp;rsquo;s very private and a great place for kids to play.&amp;nbsp; Without a boat, it&amp;rsquo;d be a long and peaceful walk.&amp;nbsp; Bird Island has been listed as on of the &amp;ldquo;Worlds Most Unusual Beaches&amp;rdquo; by Yahoo! Travel.

	What is the Kindred Spirit?&amp;nbsp; Well, it&amp;rsquo;s the main attraction and what makes this beach quite unusual and it&amp;rsquo;s a little black mailbox with a story.

	In 1981, when land-development proposals surfaced, a local resident planted the mailbox, with a notebook and pencils inside, in this unlikely spot as a plea to help save the 1,300-acre barrier island.

	And it worked. Old-fashioned handwritten letters helped secure Bird Island&amp;rsquo;s state reserve status.

	Even after the island was saved, though, the letters of fond memories kept showing up. Then came a pair of reading glasses.

	Then a steady stream of wishes, dreams, words of encouragement, and tales of love and love lost arrived from visiting tourists who, still today, sit on the adjacent bench to bare their soul at the Kindred Spirit Mailbox.

	The Kindred Spirit is on the edge of civilization and a healthy walk from the south end of Sunset Beach.&amp;nbsp; When you drive onto Sunset Beach, take a right at the stop sign and drive down as far as possible.&amp;nbsp; Park, walk out to the beach and start walking South.&amp;nbsp; You&amp;rsquo;ll see a flag pole, a little black mailbox and a little bench.

	&amp;nbsp;

	Have you ever visited the Kindred Sprit?&amp;nbsp; &amp;ldquo;LIKE&amp;rdquo; and share your stories with us on Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

		         <title>Summer Concert Series </title>
		         <description>
	I personally am a big fan of live music. It&amp;rsquo;s even better when you get to listen to it FOR FREE! Most of the beaches in the area participate in a Free Concert Series during the summer months. Mainly local bands participate in this outdoor event. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket as these events are outdoors in public areas. The Summer Concert Series&amp;rsquo; are all family friendly, so bring the kids and a cooler with some snacks along! They are outdoors in public so no alcohol is allowed, however you might be able to find a bar with in listening distance to relax out front of if you would like to enjoy a beer or cocktail. Pelicans Perch is directly across from the Ocean Isle Beach concert series and Fibber McGees is directly across from the Sunset Beach one. Outdoor seating fills up extremely quick at these bars, as it&amp;rsquo;s the only place you are allowed to drink alcoholic beverages. It&amp;rsquo;s fun either way. I like to pack up the little ones, grab a beach blanket, and make a family event out of it. The kids all like to stand up and dance around the blanket and really get in the spirit of it all! Whether you bring the kids along or not, this is a great way to spend an evening when you are on vacation. The Brunswick Beaches are small and family oriented, that&amp;rsquo;s what gives us our charm. I prefer the small town charm over the bright lights of Myrtle Beach any day. But just because we are small, doesn&amp;rsquo;t mean there isn&amp;rsquo;t some night life if you know where to look!

	You can view the Summer Concert Series Schedule on our website. Music varies from oldies, to blue grass, to beach music. There is even a Jimmy Buffet Tribute band that likes to hit the circuit. There is no better way to end a day on the beach than these popular outdoor events. Get there early as parking fills up quickly. Don&amp;rsquo;t forget the bug spray, and some water to drink! Make the most out of your Brunswick Beaches vacation by enjoying these FREE events!

		         <title>Ocean Isle Beach Night Life</title>
		         <description>
	Ocean Isle Beach might be a family oriented beach, but that doesn&amp;rsquo;t mean there isn&amp;rsquo;t some night life. You just have to know where to find it. Sitting on East Second Street, next to the Putt Putt course, is a charming local spot &amp;ldquo;Pelicans Perch&amp;rdquo;. You may remember this as the old bar &amp;ldquo;Salty McDoogles&amp;rdquo; or more recently &amp;ldquo;Second Street Bar and Grill&amp;rdquo;. This local hot spot has recently been taken over by new owners, and completely redone. The bar has been moved, the walls have been redone with stone, and it has the beautiful look of a beach bar, with all the class of the city. You really have to check it out while you&amp;rsquo;re in town. With a family friendly environments before 10, and a 21 and over only crowd after 10, this place isn&amp;rsquo;t your run of the mill OIB restaurant. Great local food,&amp;nbsp; friendly employees, and a fantastic bar.

	Pelicans Perch has live entertainment every night in the summer, some nights karaoke, some nights bands. Don&amp;rsquo;t forget your ID because after 10, they do card at the door. This place is hopping after hours with locals and vacationers alike. Come on out and sing karaoke on the stage while sipping on an ice cold drink special. Your on vacation---- and we don&amp;rsquo;t judge!! Pelicans Perch is Ocean Isle Beach nightlife at its best!

	Looking for a place to bring the family during the day or in the early evening? This is a great spot too. Don&amp;rsquo;t let the fact that I am categorizing&amp;nbsp; it as &amp;ldquo;night life&amp;rdquo; deter you. This place is beautiful and fun in the day light too, and is a great place to bring you kids! I was there a couple evenings ago watching a hockey game, and a family with 3 young kids came in for dinner. Karoke started a little early that night, and the kids got to get up on stage and sing a few songs before it turned into a bar for the evening.&amp;nbsp; Per NC state law, there is no smoking inside, so you don&amp;rsquo;t have to worry about that either. With both indoor and outdoor seating, this place is one you cannot miss while on vacation! Visit &amp;ldquo;The Perch&amp;rdquo; on Facebook to learn more about the summer entertainment schedule and menus.

		         <title>Dead End Saloon</title>
		         <description>
	 Have you ever had a Maryland Crab Cake? Or Maryland crab soup? Yes, yes, the Brunswick Beaches are in North Carolina, but we have a taste of Maryland right here in Southport, NC. You haven&amp;rsquo;t tasted a crab cake until you have tasted a true Maryland one. Many restaurants boast &amp;ldquo;Maryland Crab Cakes&amp;rdquo; but being born and raised in Maryland for my first 18 years, I can tell you, a lot of them don&amp;rsquo;t live up to the name. Dead End Saloon of Southport is a whole different story. The owners of this restaurant actually own another restaurant in Fells Point, which is a neighborhood in Baltimore. They know how to make a killer crab cake and crab soup! Whenever my momma and I get a hankering for a taste of home, we head to Dead End Saloon on Fish Factory Road in Southport.

	Not into crabcakes or crab soup? That&amp;rsquo;s okay! They have a great variety on their menu. Sitting right on the Intracoastal Waterway, you will have a great view while you dine on great food! Dead End Saloon often has live entertainment as well, so it is a great place to kick back and relax. We know sitting in the sun all day can wear you out, so kick back with a great drink, great food, a great view, and enjoy your vacation!

		         <title>Adventure Kayak Tours</title>
		         <description>
	The Brunswick Islands are home to some of the most beautiful beaches and wildlife in the southeast, so why not explore it in a unique way.&amp;nbsp; Summertide Adventure Kayak Tours is a company based out of Sunset Beach, NC, the furthest Southeast point in North Carolina, and has been serving the area for over XX years.

	If you&amp;rsquo;re looking for a fun outing with family and friends, you can tour Holden Beach, Ocean Isle Beach and Holden Beach by kayak as you paddle your way through canals and marsh area.&amp;nbsp; You don&amp;rsquo;t have to be very experienced and the tours generally only last a few hours.&amp;nbsp;

	If fishing is more your style, you could take a kayak fishing tour catching flounder, redfish, trout and black drum.&amp;nbsp; You be paddling along with guides that have the secret honey holes and help you have a good time.

	Maybe a leisure paddle to watch the sunset is more your style.&amp;nbsp; Summertide Adventure Tours offers a &amp;ldquo;Twilight Tour&amp;rdquo; that takes you out at dusk around the beautiful marsh area as you watch the sunset over the back-barrier marshes of Ocean Isle and Sunset Beach.

		         <title>Get Your Work Out On</title>
		         <description>

	Fitness is an important part of my every day life, and even when I am on vacation, I make a point to keep up with my regimen. Often when I travel I cannot find a fun place to work out, so I just end up running, which I often dread. I personally like work out classes as oppose to running. I was a dancer all my life, so I am a big fan of classes like Yoga, Pilates and of course the newest craze Zumba. Just because you&amp;rsquo;re on vacation doesn&amp;rsquo;t mean you can&amp;rsquo;t find a fun place to work out. Body Edge, located in Ocean Isle Beach, welcomes summer guests to their classes. You can even purchase a pass day, week or month pass to work out in the main gym portion. This is a wonderful gym, located a short drive from both Sunset Beach and Ocean Isle Beach. It is on the mainland in between the two islands. They have a wonderful selection of classes, including Zumba Yoga, Spinning, Strength Training and more. To view their class schedule, click here.

	This is a great local gym, with a friendly vibe. You can&amp;rsquo;t help but walk out of Body Edge with a big smile on your face. It might be the endorphins from the work out, or it might be all of the friendly faces who you worked out with. The staff and instructors are there to encourage you to have a great time while burning those calories. Classes and Day/Week passes are affordable, so bring the whole gang by to get your work out on! You&amp;rsquo;re on vacation---- Make your work out a treat too!

		         <title>Brynn Elizabeth Jewelers</title>
		         <description>

	Brynn Elizabeth Jewelers is a Jewelry Shop right here in Ocean Isle Beach. Brunswick County&amp;rsquo;s own Michael Abushakra followed in his fathers foot steps by opening his own Fine Jewelry Store, named after his beautiful daughter, Brynn Elizabeth. Michael told us a wonderful story the other day, which we wanted to share:

	It was Thursday a little after 4pm, and a young guy walks in with a small briefcase and seems a little lost. I greeted him and told him I would be right with him as soon as I finished with another client. When I was finished I looked at him and said &amp;quot;How can I help you?&amp;quot; again he was somewhat hesitant, but replied &amp;quot;I guess I have two questions, if I have a diamond, how long will it take to make a ring? And how much will it cost?&amp;quot; Anyone who has ever been in the jewelry business knows this is a question that can only be answered with &amp;quot;Well it depends, and it depends&amp;quot;. I have been fortunate enough to grow up in the jewelry business and have been making custom jewelry for close to twelve years. The answer to the first question is if we can find a mounting that is manufactured and will accommodate your diamond it can be done in a day or two, however if we have to start from scratch we are going to be looking at 5-8 weeks at best. And to answer the second question I have a fee for setting the diamond which is constant, however with gold retailing for between $150-$200 per pennyweight (approx. 1.55grams) the weight of what we select can make a huge difference in the final price. So I then asked if I could see the diamond? To which he produced a very nice 1.01ct princess cut with an EGL certificate. I asked if he had any ideas on what he would like to ring to look like? With the help of a pencil and a scratch sheet of paper he produced a very nice sketch and I know exactly where to look. A company in Louisiana makes a ring that looks very similar to what he was asking for. There are only three problems with this (aside from the fact the ring is IN Louisiana) 1) My cutoff time to place an order is 5pm (it is currently 4:45, 2)The ring is only available in a rough casting (meaning none of the 36 1mm diamonds are set), and lastly 3) He needs the ring by days end Friday (the NEXT DAY!!!). So I calmly reply, &amp;quot;No problem, however, if this is what you want to do this, we need to place this order now!&amp;quot;. With deposit in hand I place the order for the ring, 36 little bitty diamonds, and a unique head to set his princess cut diamond in.
	The next day I continuously check the UPS tracking on my Iphone while working to get EVERYTHING else done that needed to be done for the week. At about 1:30pm the ring and diamonds arrived and it was go time. I started setting and measuring as fast, yet meticulously, as possible. I started with the melee (small diamonds) first and worked my way up the center (did I mention princess cut is the most difficult to set, being extremely prone to chipping). I worked until my fingers were sore and at exactly 5pm I had a completed ring, called my young client and waited patiently for him to arrive. He comes in covered in sand, obviously fresh off the beach, and is rushed as he had to sneak off the beach to avoid an already suspicious girlfriend. He told me of his plans to take her for a walk down to the Kindred Spirit mailbox on Bird Island, so that he could propose at sunset on Sunset Beach. What a guy.

	I received a text the following day that everything went perfect and she LOVED the ring. These are the stories that I love and make my passion for jewelry so gratifying. I love being part of so many beginnings, it brings back the feelings of excitement and nerves from my own engagement over and over again. It also goes to show nothing is impossible when love is involved. ~ Michael Abushakra

		         <title>Memorial Day in OIB</title>
		         <description>
	Finally, the weekend we&amp;rsquo;ve all been waiting for, the start of the summer season, is here! When I think of Memorial Day weekend, I think of my childhood. Cook-outs, boat trips, sun block and the beach. The smell of hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill always brings me back to back yard parties, running around in the sprinkler with my sister. This year, I am delighted to say, my sister and her family are in town, so we are having a cook-out at my mothers house with all of them. We plan to decorate in red, white, and blue, and have a festive meal to kick off the best time of year, in the best place in the world, the Brunswick Beaches! My contribution this year is going to be a red, white and blue cream cheese trifle. Its simple, and delicious. Sure to be a hit with adults and kids a like. My recipe is below. I am old fashioned when cooking, and don&amp;rsquo;t really do exact measurements, but I&amp;rsquo;ll try my best below. The worse thing you can do is add too many strawberries, and hey, is there such a thing as too many strawberries?

	Ingredients:

	Pre Made Pound Cake ( Or Angel Food Cake would work as well)

	About 2 cups of sliced strawberries (or as much as you want)

	About 2 cups of blueberries (or as much as you want)

	2 8 oz package of cream cheese, softened (finally, an exact measurement!)

	1 1/2 cups of packed brown sugar

	2 teaspoon of vanilla extract

	Directions:

	Mix together the cream cheese, brown sugar and vanilla extract. You can do this by hand or with a mixer if you would like it more &amp;ldquo;whipped&amp;rdquo;. Put aside.

	Cut your cake up into 1-2 inch cubes. They don&amp;rsquo;t have to be perfect.

	In a trifle dish, layer the pound cake first. Next add 1/3 of the cream cheese. Then add the strawberries. On top of the strawberries add another third of the cream cheese. Next comes the blue berries. And the rest of the cream cheese on top.

	Voila! A red, white and blue trifle that&amp;rsquo;s not only pretty, but yummmmy!

	I&amp;rsquo;m really excited to see my little nieces face as she eats this dish. She is a big fan of both strawberries and blueberries. In fact blueberries are one of her favorite foods. I&amp;rsquo;m sure it will be a hit with her!

	Everyone might not be as blessed as me to live in Ocean Isle Beach year round, but this dish can be enjoyed anywhere this Memorial Day Weekend. If you didn&amp;rsquo;t make it down this weekend, we hope you will have a chance to visit the Brunswick Beaches soon! Wishing you a safe and happy holiday.

	Nicole

		         <title>Great Sunset Beach Treat for $1</title>
		         <description>
	It&amp;#39;s Sunday afternoon and I&amp;#39;m looking for a fun family activity around Sunset Beach.&amp;nbsp; As soon as we get over the new bridge, on the left side of the road, we come across a fun little shop called the &amp;quot;Sunset Beach Trading Company&amp;quot;.&amp;nbsp; If you&amp;#39;re looking for souveniers or local swag, you&amp;#39;ve hit the jackpot.&amp;nbsp; An overwhelming amount of local gear such as t-shirts, magnets, stickers and everything you can think of about Sunset Beach can be found inside, but the real gem is at the snack bar.

	Get your shopping in first, then grab these on your way out the door.&amp;nbsp; Especially as we head into the summer heat, a nice cold treat can hit the spot and be the perfect little break for you and your family.&amp;nbsp; Now if you&amp;#39;re out on the beach playing in the water, you might have tried a &amp;quot;Sunset Slush&amp;quot;, and those are great - don&amp;#39;t get me wrong here, but these Sno-Balls are really good too!&amp;nbsp; On Sunday&amp;#39;s you can find these for only $1, you can choose from over 32 flavors or mix and match them if you&amp;#39;d like.&amp;nbsp; If you plan on going multiple times, they have a little card you can stamp (buy 6 get 1 free).&amp;nbsp; When you&amp;#39;re looking for a great little treat to cool you down that&amp;#39;s also fun, I definitely encourage you to try some of these Sno-Balls at the Sunset Beach Trading Company.

		         <title>What&apos;s Happening on Ocean Isle Beach</title>
		         <description>
	There&amp;rsquo;s always plenty to do on the Brunswick Islands no matter which island you visit but I thought I&amp;rsquo;d tell you about some Ocean Isle Beach events that are coming up soon.

	Throughout the summer the Ocean Isle Beach Concert Series will be held on Friday nights from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the parking lot of the Museum of Coastal Carolinas at 21 East 2nd Street, Ocean Isle Beach. Come join us on May 31 to hear the Continental Divide Band performing. These concerts are free and open to the public.

	If you&amp;rsquo;ve ever wanted to try your hand at surfing the waves you&amp;rsquo;ll be interested in this next event. On Monday, June 3 there&amp;rsquo;s a Surfing 101 Class being held at the Museum of Coastal Carolina from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. This classroom only instruction program is a basic introduction to surfing. Taught by a local expert, the program covers board selection, wave selection, safety tips, and courtesy in the water. This event is held weekly on Monday until September 3, 2013. Free for members, there is an $8 admission charge to the museum for non-members (13-61), $7 for Seniors (62+), $6 for Children (3-12) and free for ages 2 and under.

	Besides the various Ocean Isle Beach events going on at any given time, there are also plenty of watersports that you can enjoy. Take advantage of the jet ski rentals, parasail rides, boat and kayak rentals, and banana boat rides. When you think you&amp;rsquo;ve exhausted all there is to do is when you can have a blast on a fishing charter. Go out for a day or a half day, into the deep blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean, and try your hand at catching that big trophy fish! If you&amp;rsquo;re coming here for vacation, this could very well be your best vacation ever!

		         <title>MoJo’s on the Harbor</title>
		         <description>
	I quite unexpectedly attended a wedding rehearsal party at MoJo&amp;rsquo;s on the Harbor last Friday evening. It&amp;rsquo;s one of the Bald Head Island restaurants in the area of where the wedding will be held.&amp;nbsp;There were 30-40 people in our group, which could have easily been more than many Bald Head Island restaurants could have handled during their dinner hour. It didn&amp;rsquo;t seem to be a problem though. The servers were in good spirits and great about keeping on top of drinks and making sure everyone had what they needed during the cocktail hour.

	I was impressed with the food and service for our rehearsal party. When we arrived, they had the back of the restaurant set up for us and they brought us plenty of salad, peel &amp;amp; eat shrimp, and baskets of hush puppies. After the cocktail hour with appetizers and starters, they started bringing out our dinners. I had a vegetarian plate and it was very nicely done with a good selection of grilled and roasted vegetables.

	Everyone appeard to enjoy whatever it is they&amp;rsquo;d ordered and we had a lot to eat! In addition to our individual dinners, they also brought out platters of French fries and sweet potato fries for each table. That was a huge success.

	??After our dinner was over we sat outdoors for a while and just socialized. They have tables set up for outdoor dining so we ordered several bottles of wine and just hung out. I think it was good for the bride and groom to decompress with friends. They&amp;rsquo;d put a whole lot of planning into their wedding that was to take place the next day and a huge number of relatives and friends had come in from out of town. &amp;nbsp;

	I can honestly say that not one person went home that night hungry or disappointed in any way. Mojo&amp;#39;s did a fabulous job that night and they won me over, for sure. I look forward to my next visit there!

		         <title>Playing Close to Home</title>
		         <description>
	The majority of people that I talk to who don&amp;rsquo;t live around this area tell me I&amp;rsquo;m very blessed to have my home in a location that is surrounded by so many golf courses. From Wilmington, North Carolina, to the north down through Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to the south, there are so many courses I can&amp;rsquo;t even begin to count them all. These are championship golf courses designed by golf pros, too!

	I suppose they&amp;rsquo;re right. I really am blessed when it comes to golf courses but to be perfectly honest, I prefer the Ocean Isle Beach golf courses closer to home. It&amp;rsquo;s these Ocean Isle Beach golf courses that see the most of me and it&amp;rsquo;s on these courses that I&amp;rsquo;ve learned how to play my game, and play it well.

	You see, I have access to the Big Cats Golf Courses at Ocean Ridge Plantation right here in Ocean Isle Beach. If you&amp;rsquo;ve never played on any of these four courses, I highly recommend you give them your time. These are four world-class, championship layouts that are both beautiful and challenging courses and I never grow tired of them.

	The Big Cats are award winning courses repeatedly in Top 10 lists by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine. Big Cats at Ocean Ridge consists of Lion&amp;#39;s Paw&amp;reg; Golf Links, Panther&amp;#39;s Run&amp;reg; Golf Links, Tiger&amp;rsquo;s Eye&amp;reg; Golf Links, and the newest course, Leopard&amp;rsquo;s Chase&amp;reg; Golf Club.

	So while there are many fine courses all over the Brunswick Islands and the surrounding area, you&amp;rsquo;d be hard pressed to find any quite as special as these Big Cats.

		         <title>Our Anniversary Dinner</title>
		         <description>
	Our anniversary was just last week and we wanted to go somewhere special to enjoy a romantic dinner together without the kids. We headed to Southport because some of the best meals we&amp;rsquo;ve ever had have been in the Southport restaurants we&amp;rsquo;ve tried when in the area. Unsure whether we&amp;rsquo;d go someplace new or stick with the tried and true, we headed out the evening of our anniversary.

	It was truly a wonderful night for us. We took the leisurely drive to Southport and chose to eat at Joseph&amp;#39;s Italian Bistro. We couldn&amp;rsquo;t have made a better choice! Of all the Southport restaurants we could have tried I&amp;rsquo;m so glad we went to Joseph&amp;rsquo;s. They had the best, most authentic, Italian food that has ever crossed my lips and believe me, I&amp;rsquo;ve eaten my share! We were thrilled with the entire experience from start to finish and I highly recommend you pay them a visit.

	The spirit of Joseph&amp;#39;s menu is reflected in the decor and ambiance of the restaurant. The Tuscan red colors with marble accents in the lounge and reception area bring to mind Old World Italy. This transitional space sets the tone for tranquility that defines Joseph&amp;#39;s. A major contrast from everyday life that you notice as soon as you come through the door.

	In the restaurant there are windows that line the rear wall of the restaurant and offer beautiful views of the Intracoastal Waterway. We chose to sit on the deck outside and watch the sunset. It couldn&amp;rsquo;t have been any more romantic.

	We had such a lovely time at Joseph&amp;rsquo;s and I&amp;rsquo;m so glad we chose to go to Southport for our anniversary dinner.

		         <title>Filming Again In Southport</title>
		         <description>
	Did you know that one of the most popular areas for filming on the East Coast is Wilmington? Brunswick Beaches neighbor just a little to the north is famous for shows such as Dawson&amp;rsquo;s Creek and One Tree Hill as well as many movies. But Wilmington isn&amp;rsquo;t the only place for filming around here. Southport and Oak Island have become very popular locations for filming as well. Films of Southport include I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Secret Life of Bees and many more! The recently released Nicholas Sparks book turned film, Safe Haven was filmed right here in Southport. That&amp;rsquo;s right! Last year Southport was host to Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamal as they filmed the love story which takes place in Southport. We even had a visit from Fergie last year, who came to visit her husband during Fourth of July. This isn&amp;rsquo;t the first time Southport has been host to a Nicholas Sparks novel turned movie either. Many scenes of A Walk to Remember were filmed right here as well! Brunswick Beaches own Southport is such a beautiful area, it is coveted by Hollywood&amp;rsquo;s finest as a filming location.

	Filming has started yet again in Southport. The Stephen King novel turn series &amp;ldquo;Under the Dome&amp;rdquo; is filming now in Southport, Wilmington, and Burgaw. I have been trying to get a spot as an extra in this show. I tried and failed with Safe Haven&amp;rdquo; but am determined this time around. If I am able to be on set, I will for sure take notes and share my experience right here on Visit Brunswick Beaches. Under the Dome is said to air its pilot in late June. Check out your local listings! If you&amp;rsquo;ve been to Southport before, watch the show to see if you recognize any landmarks. And if you haven&amp;rsquo;t been to Southport before, come on down! You wouldn&amp;rsquo;t know this friendly small southern town is the Hollywood of the east. I know I&amp;rsquo;ve said it before, but I love where I live!

	Happy Travels,

	Nicole

		         <title>Seaside With Coffee</title>
		         <description>
	On a recent trip to the Southport area I thought I&amp;rsquo;d go exploring some stores, maybe do a little Oak Island shopping while I was there. I found a real gem when I came across the &amp;quot;Seaside With Coffee&amp;quot; clothing store that carries women&amp;rsquo;s and children&amp;rsquo;s clothing, plus a whole lot of accessories, and I do love accessories. They advertise as having the largest selection of swimwear in the area and from what I saw, I&amp;rsquo;d say they&amp;rsquo;re right. Plus for those who can never find a swimsuit that fits quite right, they&amp;rsquo;ll do fittings and custom orders, too!

	I was able to find the type of summer sandals I&amp;rsquo;d been wanting and a swimsuit to match! I&amp;rsquo;d been everywhere looking for these sandals, even online. The sandals are made of a cork base with a black lizard upper. The swimsuit is a one-piece designed with pale turquoise swirls that look great with a matching wrap sarong. Phyllis Coffee the owner of the shop was working the day I was there. I found her to be both helpful and very knowledgeable about what would look best for any particular body shape. The suit combo I bought was one I might not have purchased otherwise but with her input I&amp;rsquo;ve never looked better in a swimsuit! I&amp;rsquo;m thrilled with my purchases!

	It was here that I also discovered some Fair Trade items from Unique Batik and some beautiful beaded jewelry, headbands and great textiles from Guatemala. I really prefer buying Fair Trade things whenever I can as it supports craftsmen in other countries and I know they&amp;rsquo;re paid a fair wage for their work.

	Every now and then the shop holds a fashion show. They just had one on April 28th that I just missed by a couple of days. As I always say, timing is everything! Now I&amp;rsquo;m on their mailing list so I won&amp;rsquo;t miss the next fashion show and can plan a Southport and Oak Island shopping trip around it with my girl friends.

	Check out Phyllis Coffee&amp;rsquo;s store on East Oak Island Drive the next time you find yourself on Oak Island and tell her &amp;ldquo;Hi!&amp;rdquo; for me.

		         <title>Where Our Relatives Stay</title>
		         <description>
	When you live at the beach you tend to get a lot of family and friends from far away coming to visit. I love that I get to see so much of them &amp;mdash; some of them even more frequently than when we shared the same zipcode! But family is, well, family and while you can pick your friends&amp;hellip;you know the rest of that story.

	We live in a smaller house and we take up 110 percent of it so when family or friends come to visit we really have no choice other than to make recommendations for where they should stay. There are some pretty nice Holden Beach hotels not far from where we live that now know most of our relatives on a first name basis. I think it&amp;rsquo;s great. Everyone around here is very kind and very pleasant. Northerners call it &amp;ldquo;Southern Hospitality&amp;rdquo;. I just say we&amp;rsquo;re really, really friendly people. It&amp;rsquo;s all that sunshine we take in on a regular basis. I doubt I&amp;rsquo;d be so happy and pleasant if I lived up north where it snows six months out of the year.

	I&amp;rsquo;m truly grateful for where I do live along the coast and I do appreciate that we get family and friends visiting. It gives us a good excuse to get out and do things in the area whether it&amp;rsquo;s playing golf, renting jet skis or a boat, or going deep sea fishing. When our family is staying in a hotel&amp;nbsp;they&amp;rsquo;re within walking distance to our home so that makes it pretty convenient for all of us.

	Occasionally we&amp;rsquo;ll hop in the car and take a day trip to either Myrtle Beach or Wilmington to enjoy whatever action is going on. It&amp;rsquo;s nice living in such a family-centered community where we&amp;rsquo;re central to so many things. I think I&amp;#39;m beginning to see why we are the vacation destination for everyone in our family!

		         <title>Dining Out in Calabash</title>
		         <description>
	Every now and then I get a severe craving for &amp;ldquo;Calabash Style&amp;rdquo; seafood. When that happens (more and more regularly these days it seems) I head over to The Dockside Seafood House in Calabash, North Carolina. This is, as they say, &amp;ldquo;An Original &amp;ldquo;Calabash Style&amp;rdquo; Seafood Restaurant&amp;rdquo; and I can tell you first hand that they&amp;rsquo;ll fill any craving for seafood that you may have.

	Of all the Calabash restaurants in the area this is definitely one of my favorites. I&amp;rsquo;ve tried many of the others and some come close and some not so much. I think it all depends on what style of dining you&amp;rsquo;d like. The Dockside offers outdoor dining on their new deck now so if they hadn&amp;rsquo;t won me over previously they sure have now!

	In business since 1955 they know their seafood but that&amp;rsquo;s not all that&amp;rsquo;s on the menu. There&amp;rsquo;s often one or more in any party that balks at eating seafood so they&amp;rsquo;d be happy to know there&amp;rsquo;s also slow roasted prime rib, New York strip steak, rib eye steak and more on the menu. Plus they have beer and wine as well.

	During my most recent seafood craving we went to The Dockside for dinner and I filled up on stuffed flounder with a huge baked potato, incredibly scrumptious cole slaw and some of the best hushpuppies in the state! All for just $13.95! You won&amp;rsquo;t find anywhere else among all the Calabash restaurants in the area where you&amp;rsquo;ll get so much food for such a small price.

	Just when I thought I couldn&amp;rsquo;t eat another bite we stopped off at the Calabash Creamery on Beach Drive in Calabash for some of their homemade ice cream. With 26 traditional flavors, 20 of their own gourmet flavor creations, and another 16 seasonal flavors, you&amp;rsquo;re bound to find something you like. We sure did! Now I want to go back and try so many of the other flavors!

		         <title>Entering My First Golf Classic</title>
		         <description>
	I&amp;rsquo;ve been spending a lot of time on the area golf courses in preparation of the upcoming Southport-Oak Island Area Golf Classic taking place early next month. It&amp;rsquo;s being held at the Oak Island Golf Club at Caswell Beach on May 4 and I&amp;rsquo;m planning on entering this year. This will be a new experience for me because I generally just play golf with friends and family on all the courses in our area and haven&amp;rsquo;t entered any tournaments.

	There are more than 30&amp;nbsp;golf courses&amp;nbsp;in&amp;nbsp;Brunswick County available for me to practice on and the truth is, I&amp;rsquo;ve gotten pretty good. I feel rather confident going into my first golf classic, but I can&amp;rsquo;t let it get to my head. I&amp;rsquo;ve heard it said that the toughest part of playing golf is right between your ears. Based on my own experience, I&amp;rsquo;ve found that to be true.

	With all of these&amp;nbsp;courses to play you&amp;rsquo;d think I would wait for a tournament closer to home. The Southport-Oak Island area actually has seven of the best courses in Brunswick County. Some of my favorites are the two George Cobb traditional courses at Bald Head Island Golf Club and Oak Island Golf Club. I found them both to be challenging enough as to improve my game overall.

	Some of the other courses I&amp;rsquo;ve played in that area and thoroughly enjoyed are The Lakes Country Club in Boiling Spring Lakes and the three courses in St. James Plantation &amp;mdash; The Founders, The Players, and The Members. If you ever get the chance to play the Fred Couples designed Carolina National in Winding River Plantation near Sunset Harbor don&amp;rsquo;t pass it up! It&amp;rsquo;s a winning course with challenges that will make you a better player, just like it did me!

		         <title>I Love to Shop</title>
		         <description>
	One of my most favorite pastimes is shopping and living coastal I have access to many different types of shopping venues than others might have. Let me make one thing absolutely clear &amp;ndash; there are simply no bad shopping days for me. Any day shopping for anything is a fabulous day! I consider it my own personal form of therapy whether I buy anything or not.

	Recently I had the opportunity to go to&amp;nbsp;shopping with one of my girl friends, also a therapy shopper like myself. We don&amp;rsquo;t just shop for clothing and jewelry like you might think. We also shop for the kids and the dogs and the house and the husbands. Honestly, that leaves a whole lot of shopping to be done in a limited amount of time. That&amp;rsquo;s why we have to pace ourselves and keep returning.

	Our&amp;nbsp;shopping excursion provided us with discovering some new places we hadn&amp;#39;t&amp;rsquo;t been before. One of our discoveries this trip was Maritime Passage, a beautiful spot surrounded by lush cedars, oaks and dogwood trees. They&amp;rsquo;re new to the island and they carry a nice assortment of sportswear, gifts, jewelry and lots of accessories. I always say that a girl can&amp;rsquo;t have too many accessories or shoes!

	Another treat we discovered was Canopy Outfitters. Unlike you might think by the name they&amp;rsquo;re a clothing store specializing in comfortable outdoor clothing for active men, women and children, too. There&amp;rsquo;s nothing that says you can&amp;rsquo;t look stylish while you&amp;rsquo;re out fishing, biking or hiking and this is the place to get yourself all decked out for fun. We spent hours in this store.

	We wrapped up our shopping trip by stopping by the Maritime Market to pick up something for dinner before heading home. I have to say this was definitely a four star shopping trip from start to finish! If you get a chance, head over to Bald Head Island and check out the shopping venues. You&amp;rsquo;ll be as delighted with what you find as we were. I&amp;#39;m sure of it!

		         <title>A Chilly Evening in Sunset Beach</title>
		         <description>
	It has been n the upper 50&amp;rsquo;s/lower 60&amp;rsquo;s all week, and here I am complaining that it is Easter weekend and it should be a lot warmer! After all, I do live at the beach and I am ready for warm temperatures and beach weather. After a few minutes of pouting I realize that weather in the 50&amp;rsquo;s really isn&amp;rsquo;t that awfully bad, especially considering many other parts of the nation have had snow this week. After hearing a girlfriend of mine in Maryland describe their weather, I decided to stop whining and instead realize how lucky I am to live in this beautiful area! I wouldn&amp;rsquo;t trade a day at the beach in the 50&amp;rsquo;s for a day in the city with snow no matter how much you paid me!

	Last night we stopped by Fibber McGees in Sunset Beach to have a couple beers. It was PACKED. Fibber McGees is on Beach Drive in Sunset Beach, on Queen Anne Street, in a cute little shopping center that also consists of a hair salon, a nail salon, some cute shops, and much more! Fibbers is a nice Irish Bar, that is often packed with golfers from out of town, and locals alike. It was so busy inside that my friends and I had to sit outside! Luckily the management had recently purchased outside heaters, so even though the air had a bit of a chill to it, it was perfectly pleasant outside. We ate wings, sipped craft beer, and enjoyed the scene around us.

	Fibber McGees is open for lunch, dinner, and the late night crowd and is a wonderful restaurant. &amp;nbsp;It doesn&amp;rsquo;t get too rowdy like some of the beach bars ... It has a calmer atmosphere with a more mature crowd. In the spring and summer it is often open for breakfast as well. While you are in Sunset Beach, be sure to check out the area around Fibber McGees for great shopping and food! Stop on in to Hair Du, a couple shops down from Fibbers, and get a fresh new hair style by Johnna while you are in town! I personally love Johnna and Hair Du&amp;hellip;. From Classy to Trendy, she can give you the perfect style to suite your taste. Who wouldn&amp;rsquo;t want to say they got their new du at the beach? Stop by some of the shops while you are there, and dress as the locals do!

	Queen Anne Street in Sunset Beach is one of my favorite places to hang out. Good Food. Good Shops. Good Company. And Good Drinks to warm you up if you are a baby like me and can&amp;rsquo;t take it when it&amp;rsquo;s under 70 degrees!

	Happy Travels,

	Nicole

		         <title>Where To Stay on Sunset Beach</title>
		         <description>
	With this being Easter Weekend many people are coming to the area to spend the holiday at the beach while plenty of others stay home and celebrate with family. We stay in the local area as many of our friends stop by to visit over the weekend.

	If you&amp;rsquo;re planning on coming to the Brunswick Islands and need a place to stay, I highly recommend any of the Sunset Beach rental companies we have listed here on our website. We&amp;rsquo;ve had experience with all of the businesses&amp;nbsp;and no matter which one you choose I can assure you that you won&amp;rsquo;t be disappointed.

	The 19th Annual OIB Family Day will take place in the parking lot at the Museum of Coastal Carolina in Ocean Isle Beach on Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. &amp;mdash; rain or shine! Weather permitting, outdoor activities will include nature-themed crafts, temporary tattoos, and games. There will be food and drinks available for purchase. The OIB Fire and Police Departments and the Brunswick County Sheriff&amp;rsquo;s Department K-9 Unit will be on hand with one of its crime prevention dogs. Regular museum admission is waived for the day so it&amp;rsquo;s a great opportunity to check out the museum if you&amp;rsquo;ve never been there.

	On Easter Sunday at 8 a.m. the Calabash Presbyterian Church will hold their beach worship service by the pier at Sunset Beach. Our family enjoys going every year and this year will be no exception. Beginning on Memorial Day weekend there is a service every Sunday until Labor Day. All services begin at 8 a.m. and last a half hour. A musical prelude to the service begins at 7:30 a.m. and includes all venues of music including traditional hymns, gospel, praise and worship, and choir music with emphasis on music for vacationing families.&amp;nbsp;Services are held regardless of the weather. If it&amp;rsquo;s raining we meet under the gazebo. This service is open to everyone so please join us.

		         <title>Things To Do in Ocean Isle Beach</title>
		         <description>
	One of the things I like most about living here is that there are always things to do in Ocean Isle Beach no matter what time of the year it is. Children don&amp;rsquo;t get bored here and vacationers have to keep returning time after time to take it all in. There&amp;rsquo;s just not enough time to explore all the activities in just one vacation. It&amp;rsquo;s as much fun as that!

	We often have family and friends visiting from out of state and at the top of every one of their things-to-do lists are using taking one of the area fishing charters. That&amp;rsquo;s perfect because we have a number of fishing charter companies here. Usually we&amp;rsquo;ll go out for a half day a couple to three times during the week. Fishing charters are great because they supply everything you need for fishing in the ocean &amp;mdash; rods, reels and all tackle &amp;mdash; plus they have an uncanny knack for knowing where the fish are!

	I love taking the kids on an Ocean Isle Beach Ghost Walk and watch them cling tight to their parents. They talk about that experience for the rest of the summer I can assure you. We always take in the Ocean Isle Beach Putt Putt Course to play miniature golf where the kids often beat out the grownups!

	A visit to Ocean Isle Beach is never complete without a trip to the Silver Coast Winery to experience their daily wine tastings, tour their production facility and enjoy the gift shop and art gallery. It&amp;rsquo;s a great way to wrap up an enjoyable vacation!

		         <title>Finding a Place to Stay on Bald Head Island</title>
		         <description>
	I love visiting Bald Head Island, North Carolina. It always feels like we&amp;rsquo;re going to some remote island far away somewhere because it&amp;rsquo;s 4 miles out to sea and is only accessible by boat. It is actually very secluded and I like that. The majority of the island is undeveloped and there are lots of different species of wildlife I encounter when I head out exploring the island by foot. This is truly an ecological paradise that is also a great place to experience true relaxation.

	My go-to-people when I&amp;#39;m planning to visit the island and want to stay overnight in Bald Head Island is Wendy Wilmot Properties. They know the island inside and out and are very hospitable. They&amp;rsquo;ve always been able to answer any question we&amp;rsquo;ve ever had and I find that incredibly reassuring. Islands are great but, honestly, I don&amp;rsquo;t ever want to be stranded on one even if awesome&amp;nbsp;accommodations are provided! I trust the professionals at Wendy Wilmot Properties know what they&amp;rsquo;re talking about when they assure me it won&amp;rsquo;t happen.

	One of the most enjoyable things I do when visiting the island is to go kayaking. There&amp;rsquo;s a lot of great fishing to be had that far out to sea and I just really enjoy doing it from my kayak. I pack a lunch, find the calmer waters and just park myself there. Cast out my line and just kick back and wait. It just doesn&amp;rsquo;t get any more relaxing than that!

		         <title>St. Patrick&apos;s Day is Here!</title>
		         <description>
	Ok, the truth is I&amp;rsquo;m not Irish but I like to celebrate St. Patrick&amp;rsquo;s Day as much as the next non-Irish person &amp;ndash; and even the Irish ones! This year will be no exception. As with many holidays lately this day has turned into an entire weekend of celebration. Officially though, St. Patrick&amp;rsquo;s Day is tomorrow, March 17th.

	I have friends that are in town for the weekend and are staying in an exceptional place they just happened upon from the Holden Beach vacation rentals that Brunswickland Realty had available. It&amp;rsquo;s still off-season so you can get really good rates on a rental at this time, too.

	So today my friends and I are headed to Wilmington to take advantage of their local holiday activities and then swing by Wrightsville Beach later in the afternoon to enter a 5k race. I run every day and try to enter as many races as I have the time for. Short of doing a marathon I can handle most any of them.

	The Wilmington St. Patrick&amp;rsquo;s Day Festival and Parade will be from 12 noon until 5 p.m. at Riverfront Park, Water Street, Wilmington.

	The race we&amp;rsquo;re going to, the Wrightsville Beach Marathon 5K, is taking place from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday. The 5K starts at the Mayfaire Town Center Event Field and ends with a Pasta Dinner at the Marathon Expo at Mayfaire.

	And that&amp;rsquo;s all today! Who knows what tomorrow will bring!

		         <title>Our Weekend in Southport</title>
		         <description>
	After a long winter I&amp;rsquo;m really glad to see Daylight Savings Time arrive. What a beautiful weekend we had to enjoy that extra hour of daylight, too! We were on the go all weekend long. Our family just climbed into the car and drove towards Southport looking for things to do. We were not disappointed either.

	On Saturday we went to the Franklin Square Gallery in Southport to check out their Spring Show where they were displaying the most recent award winning paintings. This free gallery is definitely worth checking out when you&amp;rsquo;re in the area. If you haven&amp;rsquo;t been there yet, the Spring Show runs though March 23 so there&amp;rsquo;s still plenty of time to get there.

	Saturday evening was something special because we went out to dinner at one of the many fine Southport restaurants in the area and then to the Brunswick Little Theatre to watch a comedy performance written by A. Jones Hope Wooten. I don&amp;rsquo;t know when I&amp;rsquo;ve laughed quite so hard! It was nice to get out for some much needed entertainment. I have to say, it almost felt like I was on a date!

	While we were looking at listings of Southport restaurants where we could have dinner Saturday evening we found some great ideas for lunch the next day.&amp;nbsp; So on Sunday we went to Baked With Love where they had wonderful sandwiches, salads, soups and quiche on the menu. We had them make up a picnic lunch to go for us. Then we took it down by the water, spread a blanket, and had the most delightful afternoon.

	What a great weekend this was!

		         <title>The East End of Ocean Isle</title>
		         <description>This Sunday I took advantage of the beautiful weather.&amp;nbsp; After church, I headed over to my momma&amp;rsquo;s house to spend the day with her. Dad was off golfing with his buddies at Ocean Ridge Plantation in Sunset Beach, taking advantage of the beautiful weather as well. And so, a much-needed mother-daughter day commenced!
First we headed over to Sharkys&amp;nbsp;OIB Resturant. Sharky&amp;rsquo;s is a great spot that locals and vacationers alike enjoy. This time of year is a great time to check out Sharky&amp;rsquo;s, as you avoid the crowds that you will experience in the dead of summer. I love the summer crowds, and the hustle and bustle it brings. But this time of year you can experience a more leisurely, laid back environment. Mom ordered a cheeseburger with fries and I had a grilled Mahi sandwich with fries. So good! Sharky&amp;rsquo;s is a favorite hang out spot of mine all year round, and I have never once experienced a meal or drink I did not enjoy. Don&amp;rsquo;t forget a side of ranch with your French fries! Sharky&amp;rsquo;s ranch is made homemade daily and is the perfect compliment to their cuisine. When in Ocean Isle Beach, do as the locals do!
After our lunch at Sharky&amp;rsquo;s, we drove down to the east end of Ocean Isle Beach for a walk. There is a foot path that goes through the undeveloped areas of the island, with bridges that cross marshes, and unbelievable views. This is what the Lowcountry is all about! Some of the paths were a little overgrown this time of year, and I didn&amp;rsquo;t have walking shoes on, so we did not go very far. Instead, we parked at the East Second Street public parking, near the Sand Dwellers Condo Complex, and walked to the East Fourth Street Beach Access. Have you ever been to the east end of Ocean Isle Beach? Sadly our island is eroding on the far east end. During storms, many of the houses and beach accesses have ended up in the water. You will see sand bags protecting the Ocean Front houses on the east end from further destruction. Past the houses, is a portion of un developed beach. If you walk to the end you will see an inlet, and directly across the inlet is the west end of Holden Beach. You will find water pools if the tide is high enough, that is fun for the kids to splash around in (when it is warmer of course!). This is a very peaceful area to walk around any time of year. It is a hidden spot that many don&amp;rsquo;t know about. This is where I find the best shells and sea glass to use to decorate my condo. I do not recommend swimming in the ocean on the east end of the island, though. Due to the erosion, you can find pieces of concrete, wood, and pavement in the water at times&amp;hellip;. I haven&amp;rsquo;t seen this happen recently, but I have known people to get cut up a little by swimming out there. It&amp;rsquo;s better to be safe than sorry! And if you&amp;rsquo;re hot you can always cool off in one of the tide pools!
&amp;nbsp;
My mom and I really enjoyed our girls day, in the gorgeous pre spring Ocean Isle Beach weather. Why not take a trip down here before the crowds hit, and experience the quiet beauty of the off season?
Happy Travels,
Nicole</description>

		         <title>Its Almost Spring in Southport</title>
		         <description>
	This weekend was a beautiful weekend at the Brunswick Beaches! It might only be February, but you can definitely feel spring in the air! I am lucky enough to live on the coast and get to experience this beautiful area everyday! This weekend a few friends of mine and I spent the day in Southport, exploring and having fun. If you&amp;rsquo;ve never been to Southport, you really need to make a point to check it out. It is a quintessential southern town, streets lines with restaurants and shops, all leading up to the waterfront. There are bike paths and swings overlooking the water where you can have a picnic and relax. The ground was little wet this weekend so instead of having a picnic, my friends and I opted to restaurant hop. We visited two of our favorite local Southport restaurants.

	First we went to Loco Joes Bar and Grill, which is on the left hand side of the main drag as you arriving in town. Loco Joes has a large beer and&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; wine selection but no liquor. If you want to sample a few craft beers before making your decision, ask you server. They will be happy to make a recommendation to suite your taste. I&amp;rsquo;m usually not a fan of sweet drinks, but decided to try the Raspberry Lambic. It was so good!! Sweet, but not too sweet, with an effervescent bite. They served it in a wine glass, with the bottle on the side, so I felt rather fancy! But don&amp;rsquo;t worry, Loco Joes isn&amp;rsquo;t a fancy place. It has a nice beachy casual atmosphere. The perfect place to grab lunch before heading out to the shops. The Raspberry Lambic came in a beautiful green glass bottle. I took it home with me, soaked it in soppy water to remove the lable and clean it out, and am now using it as a&amp;nbsp; vase for flowers. I&amp;rsquo;m all about recycle items for other uses! It&amp;rsquo;s always fun to be crafty!

	My companions tried other beers that Loco Joes had to offer. They have many different varieties. If you&amp;rsquo;re a beer lover, you will not be disappointed with the selection at this Southport hot spot! I was not super hungry, so I just decided to have some coconut shrimp. Mmmmm it was so good! Crispy, and perfect, served with a sweet and tangy sauce. One of my girlfriends had the Saigon Special which is a bowl filled with noodles, pork, peanuts, fresh herbs, and a Vietnamese dipping sauce.&amp;nbsp; She let me try a couple bites and it was wonderful! Loco Joes boasted Caribbean and Vietnamese cuisine, as well as standards such as burgers and quesadillas. If you are looking for something different, and delicious, while in Southport, I recommend checking it out!

	Next we moved on to Fishy Fish on the waterfront. Fishy Fish Caf&amp;eacute; is a staple of Southport. Their food is wonderful!! We were all full from Loco Joes, so just sat at the bar and stuck to cocktails. The bartender was friendly, and great to talk to! One of the great parts of being in Southport and the other Brunswick Beaches in the off season, is you get a chance to experience the place as the locals do! I being a local myself, am often and intrigued to give tourists advice on where to go. We ended up sitting next to a nice couple from Ohio who were snow birds down for the winter. We swapped stories and places to visit, and time just flew bye! The bartender mixed up some of his favorite drinks for us to try. He was trying to come up with specialty drinks to serve this summer. I for one and always happy to be a cocktail tester! While visiting Fishy Fish, we made sure to walk along the waterfront and see the boats in the harbor. Southport is such a special and unique town. The movie Safe Haven which was recently released was actually filmed and about here! I didn&amp;rsquo;t have the opportunity to view where the movie was filmed this weekend, but that will be for another day. I can&amp;rsquo;t wait to head to Southport again, it will have to be soon! Maybe next time I will have more time, and be able to do more than just sample cocktails (not that I am complaining)!

	Stay tuned for more of my Brunswick Beaches adventures and feel free to follow in my footsteps when you get down here. Come on down, and experience the all the area has to offer!

	Happy Travels,

	Nicole
